MAY 4,1966: Meeting called by LWV of Highland Park, IL at LWVUS National Convention, Denver, to discuss possibility of forming an inter-League Lake Michigan Basin Group. Definite interest expressed by the 24 Lake Michigan leagues represented and a temporary Chairman appointed (Jeanne Bonynge, Wilmette, IL). She was asked to write the State Boards of Michigan, Indiana, Illinois, and Wisconsin to inform them of this interest, to ask their cooperation, and to request names of their local leagues in the Lake Michigan Basin.

AUGUST 4,1966: After receiving names and addresses of Local League Presidents, Jeanne Bonynge sent a letter to them with the above information and included the following paragraphs:

Why is an Inter-League Group Necessary for Lake Michigan?
The Denver meeting pointed up increased concern for future uses of the Lake by Leagues all around Lake Michigan. Members of the Lake Erie Basin Committee attended and told of their experiences: how they had proceeded, their successes and pitfalls, and the effect they have had in bringing increased attention to Lake Erie pollution abatement and water supply. They have supported measures beyond local government to abate pollution, such as testifying at Enforcement Conferences and working with other organizations in a LWV Education Fund seminar on water and land use.
The Leagues meeting in Denver believed it was necessary to work together in an effort to keep Lake Michigan from deteriorating.

JUNE 1, 1967: First Steering Committee Meeting

2004: Indiana: By-Laws Adopted! LMILO is Official!
The  37th (and final) annual meeting of the Lake Michigan InterLeague Group and the establishment of the InterLeague Organization (ILO) took place at the Indian Oak Inn, Chesterton, Indiana.  Co-President, Judy Johnston told delegates the history of the new structure and the by-laws.

2005: Michigan: The body officially adopts the use of LWV-US "Natural Resource" positions as a base for action.
The first annual meeting of the Lake Michigan InterLeague Organization (finally!) was held in Spring Lake, Michigan.  Many activities regarding the Great lakes are underway at present and LMILO will concentrate on education -- particularly about restoration efforts at the state and federal levels -- and assisting partner organizations in developing plans of action...............
